SOLAR ARCH ADAPTERS AT MAKE GOSPORT- 2/20/22

Whenever we get into a port, one of the first things we do is, of course, google what's in the area. We discovered Make Gosport when I was googling, wait for it, crochet clubs. Perhaps one of the nerdiest things ever written. After doing some research, we realized Make Gosport had so much more to offer than a crochet club. Mads brain immediately went into project mode, thinking about everything we could do with a maker space.

Since we have gotten to Gosport, we've been having difficulty finding someone to modify the solar arch. We were not highly concerned because we always knew Make Gosport was an option. When we realized that we would not get someone to modify the arch, we signed up for Make Gosport. Mads felt more comfortable working on the arch himself than hiring someone to do it anyway. Now, with the workshop, he could get back into his comfort zone and overalls and get down to business. We knew we wouldn't be able to do any welding aboard Athena since we couldn't get the welding equipment to her. Since all the welding had to happen at the workshop, Mads came up with the idea to make a little slip-on extension. It solves the issue with the fit for our new solar panels, and it also gives us options if we ever decide to change our solar panels in the future.

At the workshop, Mads was also able to make a stainless steel box- doohickey to protect the autopilot in the aft cockpit locker. I think we are both looking forward to getting this done so now we can finally start using the locker and not have to worry about bumping the auto-pilot.
