LEAVING GOSPORT, VISITING CADOHA, AND DOOR HANDLE- 3/27/22

We said goodbye to Gosport this week. What a bittersweet farewell it was. We were sad to be going and excited about all the sailing we had planned for the Spring and Summer.

Gosport wasn't even on our radar when planning to go to the U.K. for winter. While we were in Brighton in September, I spent hours calling marina after marina, trying to find a slip for the winter to no avail. I called Premier Marina Gosport, and after I gave them my little spiel, "We're a couple sailing from Denmark to the U.S., we're looking to stay for the winter, yadda, yadda." without giving him my name, the voice at the other end replied, "Ava?" It turns out the mysterious voice at the other end watches Sail Life. Shortly after, Darryl, who ended up not so mysterious and one of the kindest guys we could have met, called back and told us we would have a spot in three days. We showed up, and it became our home for the next six months.

Although Gosport wasn't the most picturesque place we could have spent the winter, it was perfect. A grocery store we could easily walk to, two chandleries right next to the marina, and a ton of restaurants and shops in Portsmouth just across the harbor. Everything we needed to finish our big projects over the winter and, of course, go shopping ;)

Not to mention we made some incredible friends while we were there. We were grateful to the marina staff to have people to chat with when we went on a package run, and we became good friends with some of our pontoon neighbors. As I said before, we were sad to leave, mainly because of the people, but if our time in Gosport indicates what is ahead, we have quite the adventure ahead of us.

Our new glorious door handles:

We bought these hoping that they were okay and fit because they shipped from the U.S. They actually turned out so much nicer than we expected. They have a nice clean design and the handle is smooth and compact so you don't snag your clothes while walking past.
